The Well Hosted a Special Program on Heritage Brands and Family Businesses at Iconic Stephen Talkhouse in Hamptons, NY

August 19, 2024 – The Well professional network, a membership-based organization committed to empowering the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and wellness community, on August 10 hosted a special program on “Heritage Brands and Family Businesses” featuring the founders of Talkhouse Encore and The Original Crumbs Bakeshop, at the iconic Stephen Talkhouse venue (Amagansett-based) in the Hamptons, NY.

My famiy has been a resident of Sag Harbor since 1980 and I’ve been coming to Talkhouse since my 20s, which made it very special to return with colleagues and friends to host this gathering to feature how heritage brands like Talkhouse Encore were launched so many more can experience the legacy of the brand even if they haven’t been to Talkhouse or the Hamptons –but they should!” said Peter Darrow, Co-Founder of The Well and Principal Owner of Happy Wellness Consulting.

The event attracted a notable audience of brand founders, family office and venture capital investors and advisors, benefiting Wellfare, a nonprofit that helps support food-insecure communities in New York City.

“It was an unforgettable experience to share our history and story right where it all began –at The Stephen Talkhouse –with a community of brilliant entrepreneurs and like-minded family businesses. The connections we made within the Well Community were invaluable, as we found common ground in our shared narratives and discovered new ways to support one another along the way,” said Ruby Honerkamp, Founder of Talkhouse Encore, whose family has owned and operated the Stephen Talkhouse bar for over four decades.  She shared her perspectives about the brand along with her colleague Rob Minucci, its Chief Operating Officer.

Having participated in two events now put on by The Well team, it is very clear to me, and all that attend these events, what an amazing organization it is.  Building a CPG brand is hard and having access to a like-minded community that’s always there to support you in countless ways will only help myself and other entrepreneurs succeed,” said Jason Bauer, CEO of The Original Crumbs Bakeshop, who was also a panelist that provided his perspectives on the family business he founded with his wife, Mia Bauer, in 2003 in New York City.

In addition, guests enjoyed refreshing beverages including Talkhouse Encore’s ready-to-drink cocktails, Sweet Gwendoline French Gin, Vinat Wine, Mezcalum mezcal and Optimist Drinks’ non-alcoholic Cali Spritz.

“The Well is such a positive force for the CPG innovation ecosystem. We’ve been thrilled to support the community’s growth and activations with GLASS, and to bring in drinks partners Sweet Gwendoline, Mezcalum, and Vinat for this event,” said Zoe Leavitt, who attended and curated the beverage brand partners.

Other partners include Glimpse, an end-to-end, AI-powered deductions platform technology supporting the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry, as well as Shire’s Naturals plant-based dairy-free cheese company, and natural insect repellant/bug spray, Lemongrass Farms.

Akash Raju, Co-Founder and CEO of Glimpse, stated: “Glimpse had the exciting opportunity to be a partner of this event and it was a blast. As new partners of The Well, we’ve been impressed with the quality of the programming from both sides as an attendee and as a partner. The content and attendees have been immensely relevant to us as a growing tech organization in the industry. We’re looking forward to working on future programming with the group.”

“It was so special to see the ethos of The Well represented on both coasts through our programs, partners and guests,” said Patrick Pan, Co-Founder of The Well and partner in Vierra Ventures who traveled from Los Angeles to attend the event.  “We look forward to continuing this spirit of collaboration as we host more events this fall with Entrepreneur Ventures, Litquidity Ventures and partners during TechWeek in October in Los Angeles.”
