Though sandwiches remain popular across the board, with 61% of consumers eating them at least weekly either at home or away from home, older and younger consumers have different considerations when it comes to ordering sandwiches at restaurants, according to the 2018 Sandwich Consumer Trend Report from Technomic.
Overall, 44% of consumers say they have purchased sandwiches from grab-and-go sections at restaurants or other foodservice locations, with 51% of those living in urban areas having done so. Thirty nine percent of consumers overall would like sandwiches at restaurants to feature more new or unique flavors, with that rising to 54% of Millennials who look for more flavors.
