Prices for canned green beans rose to its highest last month in the past seven years. Retail prices for 24/300 cut green beans increased to $12.35 per case for January, up from $11.75 per case the previous month. While the price of 24/300 raised steadily in the past seven years according to The Food Institute price trend charts, this is the first month that it broke through the $12.00 threshold.
For 2014, the prices for cut green beans never rose above $12.00 with the highest price range seen in the months of July and August at $11.95-$12.00.
A source stated that an industry-wide shortage on cut green beans was the cause for driving up the market.
